Safeguarding kids from unsupervised internet use

While our Ms. Philippines Venus Raj is now globally famous for her major, major answer to the question and answer portion of the Ms. Universe 2010 pageant, I'd like to commend the night's winner,Ms. Mexico for her very specific and straight to the point answer. This is because, while we are now in the Information Age and the Internet Century so to say, there should be definite guidelines and rules to safeguard our children everytime they use the internet. I was very alarmed since my nephew, who's now ten years old, is quite an internet savvy kid who reguarly surfs the net not only because of the social networking fads but because it is a rich treasure trove of research materials and educational tools. The downpart of this is that, while we try our best to monitor his online activities we are not totally sure that he is protected from adult materials and obscene posts online.

Just like what Ms. Mexico said, the family is very important in guiding the youth towards the proper use of the internet. Very well said indeed!

Remember Me (the movie)

I have long been planning to write something about this movie but I only got the time today. It's quite unfortunate that most people just noticed this film because Rob Pattinson was a part of the cast. I can candidly say that this is way much better than his Twilight sequels and his acting prowess was showcased well in this film as well.

"Remember Me" is a flick set in New York during summer of 2001, a romantic drama that centers on a rebellious young man (Tyler/Rob Pattinson)whose family has experienced a family tragedy. When he met Ally (Caitlyn Rund)her spirit helped him heal and in a way changed his perspective of life.

Previous trailers for this film,I think, did not actually reflect the essence of the over-all movie because sincerely, the scenes were poignant, simply executed but the message well-driven.Credits should be accorded to the director,Allen Coulter and the writer, Will Fetters, for this memorable movie which, during the end has a major surprise in store. Of course,I have to say, the entire cast did justice in their performances.

I was pleasantly surprised to see Pierce Brosnan in here,as the distant, domineering father of Tyler since he is usually known in the action-adventure genre and famous for his Mr. Bond sequels.Their confrontation scenes fascinated me and Pattinson did supreme justice with his performance.

For those who were not able to view this flick,I suggest that you go and watch this and decide for yourself! Personally,I decided to watch this thru DVD because I wanted to find out if Rob Pattinson can actually go beyond his vampire persona in the Twilight flicks. Those eyes beckoned me to delve more on his acting credits and voila, what i found was simply reassuring! He can act! And not just another teen idol made famous by trends of the time.

Singing the Blues Away!

Singing has always been my passion.Ever since I was a small gal I've always loved singing even if I don't actually know the lyrics of the song. I would mumble through the words but actually know the melody of the song by heart and it would always give me a satisfying, happy feeling everytime I get a few claps and words of appreciation from my family and relatives who would diligently listen to me. From elementary years and onwards to my growing up years it has always been a refuge for me and singing has helped me cope up with a battle of emotions and mood swings.A really sweet form of therapy,I will always thank the Lord for giving me this talent, this skill which can be a liberating experience actually. And what better way to thank Him for this talent than by sharing it to others! I always accommodate invitations to sing and I had the great opportunity to sing for weddings of friends and relatives as well as birthday parties and it would always be a lifetime joy for me. To date these have been one of the most enduring, favorite songs of mine that I really love and songs that I will always be singing even if it would take a lifetime:

1. LOVE ME FOR WHAT I AM - The Carpenters
2. RAINY DAYS AND MONDAYS - The Carpenters
3. ONE HELLO - Randy Crawford

My Affair with Lipstick!!

I have been using lipstick since Day 1 of my career life way, way back and I cannot imagine, for the life of me, what it would be without lipstick! For one, it's like the spice in a recipe and the perfect, final touch so to say!

I always truly, honestly feel that I am incomplete without it.(sigh). It's like I always seem ready to face a new day when I have some lipstick on! It's not so much with the eyeshadows and blush, I can always do without them, thank you, but with a little help from the trustworthy pressed powder, the lipstick actually delivers! Like adding the needed OOMPH! To complete one's total look, be it casual, corporate, sporty, what have you!

Of course, one has to seriously take to consideration her skin tone, as it is detrimental in the choice of lipcolor. It can make or break you and your total look that you want to convey and may prevent you from achieving that perfect little pout! My personal favorite since way back when is and always will be the AVON line of lipsticks, especially the Avon Ultra Moisture collection. I go for the cherry and rose shades, have tried the peach shade but try to stay away from daring red and ultra red shades, simply because I am morena and brown-skinned. Recently I tried the 24K gold lipstick by Avon, the golden wine shade and I just simply adore it!

There seems to be glitters infused on the lipstick so that when the face and lips are illuminated one can see a glimpse of these gold glitters! Of course, a lipstick's beauty can be maximized with the help of lip gloss and lip liner. It will help define the lipstick in one's lips and in a way will help it to stay longer. Another trick is to dab on a little pressed powder on lips before applying your favorite lipstick, so that the lipcolor will hopefully stay put, for at least number of hours. But then again, we can always have a retouch anytime, anywhere!

Us, women always love to enhance our features and look presentable. Why, we're not trimming eyebrows and puckering up for nothing! It's like, by putting on these face essentials, we sort of affirm our individuality, our uniqueness, our own brand of beauty! haha! So much for that, let me share my latest must-try list of lipstick and would be glad to know what's in your list too!!

My Must-Try List (sponsors,anyone!haha!)
1) Revlon Lipcolors
2) Maybelline Watershine lipstick
3) Avon's newest lipcolor,the mega lipstick

Mouth Sores Can Be Fatal!!

Recently we got stuck in the hospital because my younger son suddenly ceased to eat his meals. He lost his appetite, lost his interest in food and constantly complained that his tongue and inner mouth hurts, everytime I coax him to eat or better yet just to nibble on some food. I soon found out what was causing his discomfort, the inner walls of his mouth and his upper and inner tongue was berserked with mouth sores and lesions!I decided to bring him to the pedia who recommended that my son should be confined as it's been 2-3 days that he didn't have solid food intake already! The findings, HERPANGINA, a viral infection that is common among children and highly contagious, too. Frankly, I haven't encountered such an illness yet and I realized that something as mouth sores can actually be fatal, especially if there are countless of them since a child will totally lose interest to eat! And so we landed on the hospital for the much needed treatment of antibiotics which were administered intravenously. My elder son was not spared too, since I also had to have him confined a day after my younger son's confinement because of the same complaints and symptoms!

I looked up the term HERPANGINA in the wikipedia and here is what I found out;

Herpangina, also called mouth blisters, is the name of a painful mouth infection caused by coxsackieviruses. Usually, herpangina is produced by one particular strain of coxsackie virus A (and the term "herpangina virus" refers to coxsackievirus A)[1] but it can also be caused by coxsackievirus B or echoviruses.[2] It is most common in children, and very contagious.

The symptoms are treated as necessary:

* Take acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Motrin) by mouth for fever and discomfort as the doctor recommends.
* Increase fluid intake, especially cold milk products. Gargle with cool water or try eating popsicles. Avoid hot beverages and citrus fruits.
* Eat a non-irritating diet. (Cold milk products, including ice cream, are often the best choices during herpangina infection. Fruit juices are too acidic and tend to irritate the mouth sores.) Avoid spicy, fried, or hot foods.
* Use topical anesthetics for the mouth (these may contain benzocaine or xylocaine and are usually not required).

Our pedia also prescribed an oral solution,Difflam, which the child has to gargle at least 3 times a day. It is mild for use among children and a topical anesthetic that really relieved the kids, too.
