Earth Hour - March 26, 2011

We only have one planet, one Earth so we have to preserve it to the best of our abilities and even only through small but continuous steps. With climate change and global warming posing imminent danger and ecological risks these days each and every one of us should be aware.

The Earth Hour 2011 is a yearly activity that started 5 years ago which encompasses the participation of private and public organizations and individuals. It aims to bring about cooperation and global understanding on the pressing issues of environmental hazards and the threats that our Mother Earth is facing these days. The people behind it has so far claimed positive results and raving outcome especially in terms of community support and awareness. It is good to know that this year's facilitation of Earth Hour is aimed towards MEANING rather than on mere figures.

What can each of us do to help Mother Earth beyond Earth Hour 2011? Honestly, I wasn't that aware of it before but my hubby helped me understand its importance. We live in the rural area, away from the hustle and bustle of the city so while we didn't actually felt the spirit of the "lights out" activity for Earth Hour we vowed to continue doing these activities that help the environment in one way or another. These are the following:

1) USING THE BICYCLE AS A PRIMARY MODE OF TRANSPORTATION
2) GARBAGE SEGREGATION
3) USING ORGANIC MEANS OF FERTILIZERS ON PLANTS
4) AVOID THE BURNING OF DEAD LEAVES/GARBAGE
5) RECYCLE PLASTIC MATERIALS

I know, in our own small way we are doing our share to preserve Mother Earth. And it's a reassuring thought for me! Let us all continue to help out, in our own small way in contributing steps and ways to make this world a better place to live...
